SFBRTG - Details

The goal of the SFB/TR 8 Research Training Group is to realize special measures to promote scientific careers of the doctoral researchers in the SFB/TR 8. Each doctoral researcher employed in one of the projects is a member of the SFBRTG and, hence, benefits from its provisions.

A main goal of the qualification concept for doctoral researchers in the SFB/TR 8 is to provide opportunities to present and discuss their work both internally and externally and to increase their visibility in the international scientific community. Already established activities in this direction are the SFB/IQN colloquium, the SFB/TR 8 thematic workshops, and participation in graduate seminars at the level of individual research groups. The SFBRTG organizes yearly doctoral colloquia for all doctoral researchers in the SFB/TR 8. In addition, the SFB/TR 8 supports the participation in scientific training opportunities (e.g., summer schools) and research visits to international cooperation partners of the individual projects. The SFB/TR 8 also provides a rich curriculum of courses on special topics of spatial cognition which will be complemented by special course offers from visiting researchers.

With the SFBRTG, the SFB/TR 8 also aims at concretizing the supervision concept for doctoral researchers in the SFB/TR 8. We stipulate that advisor and doctoral candidate establish mutual obligations in the form of a contract for supervision. In addition, we formulate a program of progress checks and milestones to monitor the performance of the doctoral students.

The SFBRTG also offers short-term scholarships for external doctoral researchers or as qualification opportunities for candidates on a position in one of the projects of the SFB/TR 8. The SFBRTG is represented in the SFB/TR 8 board by at least one of its principal investigators.
