Abstract: The Hyperontology framework has been recently introduced to provide a general methodology for heterogeneous ontology design, i.e. the construction of ontologies that have parts, or modules, written in di erent formalisms, and which are interlinked in complex ways. We here present a brief outline of this framework, discuss its features and merits, and illustrate its usefulness for the domain of biomedical ontology design by providing and discussing a number of examples.
