Does my brain look big in this?

Prof. Stephen Marsland, Massey University

In this talk I will attempt to give an overview of two topics that seem to be of interest to your group: the Massey University Smart Environments (MUSE) smart home, and a mathematical description of shape.
The MUSE group at Massey has been looking at behaviour recognition as a precursor to a smart home for monitoring the elderly. We are now at the stage of having algorithms that learn to identify behaviours based on sensor observations, even without an initial labelled training set, and are currently deploying the system in a real home occupied by a single elderly person. I will give an overview of the system.

For the second part of the talk, I will describe research towards a mathematical description of shape and demonstrate its use in medical image analysis.
